The Catholic community in Adams County dates to 1878. In 1928 the Glenmary missionaries celebrated Mass in Manchester and in 1949 moved to Mt. Union where Mass was celebrated in the rectory. Fr. William H. Bishop was the first pastor and on May 31, 1953 Holy Trinity Church was dedicated. An interesting fact is that Holy Trinity Church in Dayton contributed to the building of the church in West Union. In 2000 the Glenmary priests transferred the Adams county parishes to the Archdiocese of Cincinnati.
